As per news sources former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and was sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena on 26th October 2018 at the Presidential Secretariat. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is a lawyer and has been engaged in active politics in the country for five decades. He was first elected to Parliament in 1970. He served as Prime Minister from 6 April 2004 until his appointment as President of the country in 2005. He was elected for the first time as President on November 19, 2005 re elected on January 27, 2010 for his second term as President of the country.


The videos show former President Mahinda Rajapaksa taking the oath as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in front of President Maithripala Sirisena and surrounded by opposition MPs, ministers and MPs from the SLFP. This unexpected announcement came just minutes after the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) decided to withdraw from the unity government.
